PFS Weekend Trip to Dover

Weekend of 25th/26th April. PFS study trip to Dover. This will extend to Friday and Monday with
“optional extras”. We can’t confirm all of the details yet but this is the draft schedule:

  • 24th April Afternoon - Fort Burgoyne and West Wing Battery.
  • 25th & 26th April - Western Heights. This will include The Drop Redoubt, North Entrance, Great
    Shaft, St Martin’s Battery and some other locations that we are still working on. BBQ with
    Western Heights Preservation Society on 25th pm.
  • 27th April - White cliffs WW2 stuff - Wanstone Battery and Fan Bay.


The per person cost for Friday and Monday is not likely to exceed £10 for each day and the cost for
Saturday and Sunday should be less than £40 (which will include the BBQ and some donations). No
money is needed now but we need an idea of numbers so please register - see recent Newsletter for details. Numbers will be limited and if you register an interest now you will be on the “first come first served list
”.

The 2025 edition of the PFS Journal has arrived from the printers. It will be distributed to members at this years AGM on the 25th October and to those members unable to attend it will be posted via Royal Mail the following week.

Lumps Fort recognised as Scheduled Monument

We are delighted to announce that, the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport has decided to add Lumps Fort (Southsea) and the site of the nearby practice battery to the National Heritage List for England as a Scheduled Ancient Monument.

The Palmerston Forts Society (PFS) aims to educate the public about Fort Nelson and Victorian fortifications, supporting their improvement for public benefit. To further this goal, PFS offers financial grants of up to £1,000 for projects focused on preserving and recording Victorian forts.
